| Committee Role Descriptions. |
Chairperson
- The Chairperson is the person holding the office of chair in the club, who is typically elected or appointed by members of the group or organisation, presides over meetings of the group, and is required to conduct the group’s business in an orderly fashion.
- Overseeing all day to day running of the club and anything else that may arise. The chair needs to lead in all business in a fair and non biased way. It’s a very rewarding and enjoyable position.
Vice Chairperson
- To support the chair person in any capacity they require and deputise as requested
- To stand in for the chair at meetings if they are unavailable
Treasurer
- The treasurer is responsible for managing the club’s finances, paying expenses, and keeping accurate financial records.
- Monitor income and expenditure, and report regularly to the committee and members to ensure transparency. This important role helps keep the club financially stable.
Welfare Officer
- All clubs with under 18s are required to have at least one Club Welfare Officer (CWO).A CWO is the person with primary, but not sole, responsibility for managing safeguarding concerns within a club.
- As part of their role, they will promote safeguarding, report concerns and work with others to create a safe and inclusive environment, in which everyone can experience the joy of cycling.
- Maintaining British Cycling’s high standards. They allow piece of mind for young people, their families and clubs by highlighting the importance of safeguarding.
Club Secretary
- The role in short, keeps the club’s admin running smoothly and makes sure everyone is informed and connected.
- Keep records of committee meetings and decisions through setting agendas and circulating minutes for meetings.
- Handle correspondence and share information with the committee and members, ensuring the club runs in line with its constitution.
- Support events and new initiatives by liaising with members and other committee roles and responding to enquiries from prospective members.
- Helping coordinate club events and ensuring paperwork is in order.
- Act as a point of contact between the club and outside organisations. Ensuring the club remains affiliated with national bodies.
Ride Captain
- The ride captain works with the club’s Ride Leaders (RLs) to run safe and enjoyable rides for club members.
- Responsibilities include managing the route bank, the club ride calendar and the RL rota, selecting routes for rides and monitoring weather conditions to postpone or cancel rides when necessary.
- The ride captain must also respond to feedback from RLs and members to amend routes, implement new rides/routes and manage riding etiquette and ride safety across the club.
Social Secretary
- The role works both internally and externally of the club and aims to promote the benefits and inclusivity of NCCC and cycling in the general community.
- Managing and promoting NCCC activities and events on the club’s social media platforms; predominantly Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp.
- Ensuring the club’s website is timely updated with events, posts and general information.
- Interact and collaborate with followers and supporters from the above social media platforms and respond promptly to any DM’s.
- Continue to develop existing relationships with British Cycling (South Region) and Cotswold Radio to the benefit of NCCC and be vigilant of any new media platforms that would benefit NCCC.
Youth Initiative Secretary
Role Purpose
- To lead and coordinate youth-focused activities within the club, ensuring that young riders have safe, enjoyable, and developmentally appropriate opportunities to participate in cycling, in line with British Cycling guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact for youth members, parents/guardians, and coaches regarding youth activities.
- Work with the committee to plan, promote, and deliver initiatives that encourage young people to get involved and stay engaged in cycling.
- Liaise with the Club Welfare Officer to ensure safeguarding standards are met and maintained.
- Support coaches and volunteers in providing age-appropriate training, rides, and events.
- Represent the views and interests of youth members at committee meetings.
- Keep accurate records of youth participation and provide updates to the committee.
- Promote pathways for young riders to progress, whether recreationally or competitively, in line with British Cycling development opportunities.
Skills/Qualities
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to engage positively with young people, parents, and volunteers.
- Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
- Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities (training provided if required).

General Committee Members
- Every general committee member plays a vital role in contributing their help, support, ideas and at times guidance regarding the running of the club. Their attendance and input is very much appreciated, they are true assets.
Time Commitment
Variable depending on specific role and time of year for rides/events but generally ranging from a few hours per month, including committee meetings and occasional event support/leadership to a few hours weekly to cover the various routines club activities.
