NCCC visit to MAAC (Midlands Air Ambulance Charity)
It was a real honour to have been invited to visit the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity site at Strensham today.
Our charity contact Nicole introduced us to one of the crews, so we got a chance to chat to Ian (Pilot) and Scarlett (Doctor).
Luckily they didn’t have a call out while we were there, but if they did they are in the air 3-4 minutes from the first shout.
They carry far more equipment than a traditional ambulance, including 4 units of blood (which has to be changed daily).
Another notable piece of equipment they carry is the LUCAS device which is able to give automated chest compressions in event of a cardiac arrest, leaving clinicians free to deliver other life saving interventions.
Thanks to Will for digging down to that level of detail!
Nicole told us that the ‘take off’ cost has significantly increased given the rise in the cost of aviation fuel. As a Charity that means donations are what keeps them flying and it’s great that the club supports them.
Since 2024 NCCC have raised over £3000! The main purpose of today’s visit was to handover the £525 we raised from the raffle at the club dinner in February.
Below is a sample of some of today’s visit and the cheque handover by club committee members Will Biggart, Ian Humphrey and Martin Angell.
