Minutes from extraordinary committee meeting 26th August 2025

MINUTES FROM EXTRAORDINARY COMMITTEE MEETING OF NORTH

COTSWOLD CYCLING CLUB: 7PM ON 26th AUGUST 2025 @ THE REVOLUTION

CAFÉ, COTSWOLD CYCLES

Attendees: Martin Lewis (Ride Captain), Paul Flint, James Barlow, Will Biggart, Jeremy Griffiths, Simon Richards, Laura Baskeyfield, Andrew Bray, Henry Eve, Rachel Davies

Apologies: Simon Jones, Simon Taylor

Chairman (JG)

Meeting called due to the closing of Cotswold Cycles / Revolution Café in Moreton, to determine a path forward for North Cotswold Cycle Club.

The chairman mentioned that he was ambivalent to the situation, but the committee did need to find a solution that worked for both the club and its members. Cotswold Cycles / Cotswold Link will remain open until the building is sold / leased. In the interim, it was noted that club members should support TY Cycles in Chipping Norton as much as possible.

Committee

Several options had been proposed by committee and club members since the closure announcement. However, it was unanimously voted that North Cotswold Cycle Club would remain in Moreton-in-Marsh on the basis that this was central to many of its 221 members.

Historically, this was also where the club was founded back in the 1900’s. Given its location, Moreton also offers a variety of rides and remaining in the same location requires no change to the clubs route bank.

Jake Waterhouse had offered the Dekomte building, also based on the business park as a potential start / end point for rides. With access to toilets, water, parking and kitchen if required. This option would allow the club to continue to meet in the same place and have minimal disruption to the club as it stands today. Bakery-on-the-Marsh had also expressed interest to open up on Sunday’s for club riders.

Actions

Jeremy Griffiths – Pursue conversations with Jake @ Dekomte and Alex @ Bakery on the

Marsh and confirm if these are still viable options to propose from Saturday 6th September onwards. In Progress

Paul Flint – Send out comms to the club via social media / email with next steps. DONE

AOB

• Laura to look at ladies ride routes for Saturday 6th September, given the Revolution Café will be closed and Moreton show is being held near Batsford. In Progress

• Jeremy to confirm if the picnic ride on Sunday 7th September can be held at

Revolution Café in Stow. New routes and comms to be send out if so. In Progress

.Next committee meeting has been rescheduled to Monday 15th September 7pm at the new Rev Cafe, Talbot Court, Stow on the Wold

Fab Three complete the Sea to Sea!

Huge congratulations to three more of our fab club members Challise, Alan and Victoria for completing their latest challenge which was the iconic C2C (Sea to Sea) Whitehaven to Tynemouth cycling route.

The ride was a total of 137 miles with a gruelling 3,630m of ascent and spans between the west coast of the Irish Sea (Whitehaven) and across to the east coast of the North Sea (Tynemouth).

With breathtaking landscapes it passed through the northern Lake District before climbing the Pennines and descending to the railway paths of County Durham.

The route includes several notable climbs and two of these were below:

Whinlatter Pass

  • Distance: 3.3 km
  • Max gradient: 15%
  • Height gain: 231 m

Hartside Top

  • Distance 15.7km
  • Maximum gradient 9%
  • Height 400m.

There was of course many other challenging climbs (see Alan’s face below!) all of which delivered a huge sense of achievement particularly after conquering a long stretch of 20% uphill (fist pump from Challise!)

The group had a fantastic time, enjoyed perfect weather and amazing views and are looking for their next cycling challenge… watch this space!

Below is a sample of the fab three sporting their NCCC kit during their epic rides and once again flying the flag for NCCC along the way.

“Huge well done to Challise, Alan and Victoria”

We’ll keep our eyes peeled for your next adventure.

Cath Conquers Mont Ventoux!

Cath Smith conquers Mont Ventoux in true NCCC style!

Mont Ventoux is a famous mountain in Provence, Southern France, known as the “Giant of Provence” and a legendary climb in the Tour de France, with a distinctive, snow-like white summit. Reaching an elevation of 1,910 meters (6,270 feet), it offers challenging routes for cyclists and hikers, providing panoramic views of the surrounding region, including the Alps and the Mediterranean.

Cath quoted “Scariest thing I’ve ever done so I’m quite proud of myself!”

Huge well done to Cath for taking on and completing this amazing challenge and of course sporting club kit too. Flying the flag for NCCC up Mont Ventoux.

NCCC Committee Meeting Notes from Monday 7th July

Committee meeting Minutes 7th July 2025

Present: Jeremey Griffiths, Simon T, Simon Jones, Martin Lewis, Andrew Bray, Will Biggard, Paul Flint, Henry Eve and Rachael Davies

Apologies: Laura Baskeyfield

Charmain’s Jez’s Summary:

• Club is going from strength to strength with 212 members 66 female (31%) and 146 males (69%).

• The Ladies only maintenance evening was a success with 16 people attending.  Jez may run another maintenance evening open to all.

• The Chain Gang is also well attended as are all the rides.

• The G3 Rides have been shortened to encourage G4 rides to move up

• Next Sunday we will have out Bastille Day/Tour De France rides ending with a BBQ and prizes for the King and Quenn of the Mountain within each group ride. Members are encouraged to take part and to wear Tour kit if they have it. There will be a charge for food. (Rachael will organise the prizes)

Publicity: Paul: He is linking with British Cycling re an event they are holding in Winchester to promote inclusion and linking with other clubs.

Vice Chairman: Simon: Ongoing concerns re finding enough people to lead the G4 rides. Could some of the G1 and G2 trained leaders help out, once every 2 months would be enough.

General Committee member Will: Could people indicate if they are attending events by sending a “Thumbs Up” on the relevant WhatsApp message?

Ride Captain: Martin: The Paceline is getting faster so will need to be two groups to meet the needs of all riders.

General Committee member Simon T: The Barons rides are going well and next year he is planning to go straight in at 100 miles and possible include a two-day ride to a suitable overnight stop.

Race Secretary Henry: He is planning a hill climb event.

AOB: Could we start a junior’s event at the Fire College now that the Park Run is allowed access? Ian had emailed Martin to say he felt the committee was comprised of too many long standing people, but he wasn’t proposing to do anything to change that.

Meeting closed at 20:30 , next meeting 8th September at 7pm all members of the club are welcome to attend.

What a great evening for our Ladies Only bike maintenance last night

What a fabulous evening tonight with our Women Only Bike Maintenance Evening
that was kindly hosted by Cotswold Cycles.

The event started at 6:30 pm and it was most encouraging to see so many of our members attending this very insightful session.

Drinks and snacks were also available from the Revolution Cafe.

It’s another brilliant initiative that Cotswold Cycles provided us with for our increasing women members and it was free of charge too!

The benefits of being an NCCC member and our partnership with the “HOME OF OUR CLUB ….Cotswold Cycles & The Revolution Cafe” really is rather special!

Plus, Cotswold Cycles Discounts to NCCC Members – All visiting members of NCCC will receive 10% discount off parts and labour and cafe.

Best prices we can get on new bikes will always be offfered to NCCC members too.

Huge thanks to Jeremy, Crosby and the whole team at Cotswold Cycles/The Revolution Cafe for providing a brilliant event for our ladies last night .
